The name of the Foundation has been derived from Ubuntu, a traditional African philosophy which means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity’. The organization in its current form has out of the extensive community work undertaken by its Founder in Jodhpur and Goa since 2014. The two successful initiatives namely Smart Colony – Smart Ward Initiative and establishing biodegradable sanitary pad unit as a livelihood model for women in Jodhpur and Goa provided a solid background to the Foundation for future interventions.

Since its registration in 2018, Ubantu Foundation has taken sincere efforts to empower the needy sections of the society. The Foundation launched its first community project in Goa in 2019 with financial support under CSR from Tulip Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd. In 2021 and 2022, The Ubantu Foundation worked closely with German Development Cooperation (GIZ India) to provide consultancy support to Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India and National Cooperative Union of India. In addition to this, the Foundation got financial support from GIZ India to work with the Panchayati Raj Department, Uttar Pradesh for documenting success stories under MNREGA scheme. In 2024, Ubantu Foundation received financial support under CSR from Tower Vision Pvt. Ltd. to execute livelihood generation projects in Goa and Uttar Pradesh.

Ubantu Foundation was registered a social organization in October, 2018 under companies act, 2013.Ubantu Foundation works with a vision to utilize the power of community capacity, social entrepreneurship and sustainable technologies through an integrated and participatory approach for social development and environment conservation in rural and tribal areas. Some of the key focus areas include promoting education, including special education, and employment enhancing vocational skills especially among children, women, elderly, and the differently abled, promoting gender equality, empowering women and conservation of natural resources.
